Compressorhead - "Blitzkrieg Bop"

YouTube: Compressorhead Blitzkrieg Bop (via Testspiel

This self-portrait documents the state of the rover and allows mission engineers to track changes over time, such as dust accumulation and wheel wear ... The mosaic shows the rover at "Rocknest," the spot in Gale Crater where the mission's first scoop sampling took place. Scoop scars can be seen in the regolith in front of the rover. A portion of Mount Sharp appears on the right side. Mountains in the background to the left are the northern wall of Gale Crater. When the rover returns the full-resolution MAHLI frames of the scene, the team plans to generate a more detailed portrait of Curiosity in its Martian neighborhood.

Cheetah Robot – Schneller als Usain Bolt

YouTube: Cheetah Robot runs 28.3 mph (via KFMW)

So viel steht fest.

Sarcastic Mars Rover

Gestrandet. Auf dem Mars. An einem Montagmorgen. Ich kann @SarcasticRover ja verstehen. Kann daraus bitte jemand ein Textadventure machen?

Unschlagbarer Schere-Stein-Papier-Roboter

YouTube: Schere-Stein-Papier-Roboter (via Automaton

In this research we develop a janken (rock-paper-scissors) robot with 100% winning rate as one example of human-machine cooperation systems ... Recognition of human hand can be performed at 1ms with a high-speed vision, and the position and the shape of the human hand are recognized ... The vision recognizes one of rock, paper and scissors based on the shape of the human hand. After that, the robot hand plays one of rock, paper and scissors so as to beat the human being in 1ms ...

Vollautomatisches Entbeinungssystem

YouTube: Entbeinungsroboter (via Popsci)

Human Interface is a piece for two dancers and two industrial robots by dancer-choreographer Thomas Freundlich. The programmed movements of the robots are mechanically precise, yet surprisingly human. The robots are like animate beings with their own personalities, the equals of their human dance partners. The groundbreaking technology used in this production enables safe movement – for the first time ever – within the immediate proximity of industrial robots. The spacious Pannuhalli stage at Helsinki's Cable Factory provides an interesting post-industrial backdrop for the unprecedented encounter between robots and humans. "One of the most fascinating aspects of working with industrial robots is our incredibly strong tendency to see machines as living, even conscious creatures. Strangely, the robots often seem to be at their most interesting when they're programmed to move least like machines. If you make the robot move like a bird, dinosaur or some weird creature we don't even have a name for – well, all of a sudden you get involvement, you get empathy, you get a genuine emotional connection with a machine that's designed to weld cars. This I find incredibly fascinating, as it leads us into some very deep pathways of thought in evolutionary biology and psychology." -TF

The Hubos Come Together: Roboter-Band covert Beatles

YouTubeTheHubos (via Doktorsblog)

The HUBOs are operating autonomously (not human-controlled). Their movements are directed by student-developed software to perform the gestures necessary to produce the appropriate notes and beats as dictated by a musical score. Every sound in the video was performed by the robots. MET-lab student Matthew Prockup created the musical arrangement for drum kit and three "Hubophones", novel percussion instruments designed and constructed by the lab for this performance. HUBO was designed and developed by the Korea Advanced Institute of Technology (KAIST) Hubo Lab (Dr. Jun Ho Oh, Director) ...

Springender Roboter: Sand Flea von Boston Dynamics

YouTubeJumpingRobot (via Automaton)

Sand Flea is an 11 pound robot that drives like an RC car on flat terrain, but can jump 30 ft into the air to overcome obstacles. That is high enough to jump over a compound wall, onto the roof of a house, up a set of stairs or into a second story window. The robot uses gyro stabilization to stay level during flight, to provide a clear view from the onboard camera, and to ensure a smooth landing. Sand Flea can jump about 25 times on one charge. Boston Dynamics is developing Sand Flea with funding from the US Army’s Rapid Equipping Force (REF).

Machine Pareidolia

I ran 681 photos from the Hello Little Fella Flickr group through Jason Saradigh's FaceTracker (with the help of Kyle McDonald's ofxFaceTracker). FaceTracker detected faces in about 8% of the photos. Sometimes the faces it detected are the same a person would see, sometimes they differ.

Roboter Quadrocopter performen James Bond Titelmelodie

YoutubeBondQuadrocopter (via Waxy

Quadrotors designed and built at the University of Pennsylvania perform the James Bond Theme by playing various instruments including the keyboard, drums and maracas, a cymbal, and the debut of an adapted guitar built from a couch frame ... These flying quadrotors are completely autonomous, meaning humans are not controlling them; rather they are controlled by a computer programed with instructions to play the instruments.

Robot: Kurzfilm von Jim Henson (1963)

YouTubeHensonRobot (via Nerdcore)

"Jim Henson made this film in 1963 for The Bell System. Specifically, it was made for an elite seminar given for business owners, on the then-brand-new topic — Data Communications. The seminar itself involved a lot of films and multimedia presentations, and took place in Chicago ... The organizers of the seminar, Inpro, actually set the tone for the film in a three-page memo from one of Inpro's principals, Ted Mills to Henson. Mills outlined the nascent, but growing relationship between man and machine: a relationship not without tension and resentment: "He [the robot] is sure that All Men Basically Want to Play Golf, and not run businesses — if he can do it better." ... Henson's execution is not only true to Mills' vision, but he also puts his own unique, irreverent spin on the material ..."
